FROM THE AVANT-GARDE TO CONTEMPORARY ART

During the first half of the 20th century, various groups of artists came onto the scene in Europe who challenged the state of the arts with a rebellious stance and an innovative spirit, which is another area in which a good number of works stand out in the Pérez Simón Collection. From the Avant-Garde period, the exhibition presents important creations by Edvard Munch, Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso and Fernand Léger, among others.

We also find in the tour the art of the second half of the century, seen from an international perspective exemplified by authors from several continents.

In the Collection, the part dedicated to Spanish art stands out, covering a time span from the 16th century to the present day, with some of the most relevant artists. This section includes Picasso, Dalí, Miquel Barceló, Antonio López and Manolo Valdés.

If this were not already an ambitious panorama, at the end of the tour the imaginary of the Chinese and Japanese creators of the present day is introduced, another objective that has enriched the Pérez Simón Collection. Specifically, works by Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Zhang Xiaogang and Zeng Fanzhi will be on view.

The 23 artists presented in this third section are: Edvard Munch (Løten, 1863 - Ekely, 1944), Tamara de Lempicka (Warsaw, 1898 - Cuernavaca, 1980), Frida Kahlo (Mexico City, 1907 - Mexico City, 1954), Diego Rivera (Guanajuato, 1886 - Mexico City, 1957), Georges Braque (Argenteuil, 1882 - Paris, 1963), Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973), Franz von Stuck (Tettenweis, Lower Bavaria, 1863 - Munich, 1928), Raoul Dufy (Le Havre, 1877 - Forcalquier, 1953), Fernand Léger (Argentan, 1881 - Gif-sur-Yvette, 1955), Oskar Kokoschka (Pöchlarn, 1886 - Montreux, 1980), René Magritte (Lessines, 1898 - Brussels, 1967), Salvador Dalí (Figueras, 1904 - Figueras, 1989), Paul Delvaux (Antheit, 1897 - Furnes, 1994), Mark Rothko (Daugavpils, 1903 - New York, 1970), Michelangelo Pistoletto (Biella, 1933), Alex Katz (New York, 1927), Takashi Murakami (Itabashi, Tokyo, 1962), Yoshitomo Nara (Hirosaki, Aomori, 1959), Zhang Xiaogang (Kunming, Yunan, 1958), Zeng Fanzhi (Wuhan, 1964), Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, Mallorca, 1957), Antonio López García (Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, 1936) and Manolo Valdés (Valencia, 1942).
