19TH CENTURY

In this section, the visitor will find important pieces of 19th century British art, which stands out in the Pérez Simón Collection for the large number and excellent quality of the works it brings together, and is currently considered the most important private collection of Victorian art outside the United Kingdom.

French art is also the protagonist of this section through two of its most emblematic references: the academic tradition and impressionist modernity. Here you can see pieces by great masters such as Vincent van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and Paul Cézanne, to name just a few.

In addition, there are exceptional works by Italian, Nordic and Central European artists from the same period.

The 31 artists in this second section are: Joseph Mallord William Turner (London, 1775 - London, 1851), Augustus Wall Callcott (Middlesex, London, 1779 - London, 1844), Dante Gabriel Rossetti (London, 1828 - Birchington-on-Sea, Kent, 1882), Edward John Poynter (Paris, 1836 - London, 1919), Frederick Leighton (Scarborough, Yorkshire, 1830 - London, 1896), John Everett Millais (Southampton, 1829 - London, 1896), Edwin Long (Bath, Somerset, 1829 - Hampstead, London, 1891), Lawrence Alma-Tadema (Dronrijp, 1836 - Wiesbaden, 1912), Henry Albert Payne (Kings Heath, Warwickshire, 1868 - Amberley, Gloucestershire, 1940), John William Waterhouse (Rome, 1849 - London, 1917), Alexandre Cabanel (Montpellier, 1823 - Paris, 1889), William Adolphe Bouguereau (La Rochelle, 1825 - La Rochelle, 1905), Gustave Moreau (Paris, 1826 - Paris, 1898), Julien Dupré (Paris, 1851).
